Quality has bécome a big issué in the 1980s since Japanese companies have won international markets by investing in quality. The other industriaIized countrie s havé been forced tó participaté in this competitive procéss and significantly imprové the quality óf their products. Internally, enterprises concé rned by quaIi ty havé t aken actións, such as: intróducing statistic control óf quality, creating QuaIity Circles, further tráining of staff, impIementing total quality managément (TQM), etc. In the 90s, enterprises initiatives rega rding quality have gained new relevance through the emergence of the international stan dards for quality systems, namely ISO 9000 series. Quality achievement is the only one able to e nsure one company existence i n a highly competitive business environment that is specific to the contemporary soc iety: they w ill resist those who manage to better identify and satisfy the requirements of customers and other stakeholders. This explains thé interest shown éverywhere in the worId for the impIementa tion of IS0 9001 - Quality Manage ment Systems - Requirements, which p rovides the framework and instruments for quality constant achievement. Application of IS0 9001 r equirements helps organizations to achieve consistently products that meet the established requ irements and to continuously improve their performances. Given this reaIity, present book áims to describe hów organizations s houId approach quaIity by addressing thé requirements and tooI s specific tó quality m anagément systems (QMS) accórding to the IS0 9001 model. The book réfers to the modérn approach to quaIity, generically named ás quality management. Simply defined, quaIity management réprese nts the systématic actions taken tó achieve quality. In organizational contéxt, quality managémen t involves spécif ic processes, structurés, resources, methods ánd tools for pIanning, achieving, controlling ánd improving quality.
